On an interstellar adventure to the moon and beyond. Harnessed by the power of Octane’s cutting-edge displacement and new roughness maps to infuse every pixel with unparalleled realism, while keeping a sense of cosmic wonder and magic.
This is a personal exploration where I delved into various Octane functionalities. Initially, I sculpted the ground to match my envisioned composition, layering it with a Cinema 4D displacer and a displacement map to create a detailed lunar landscape from a relatively simple surface.
The NASA moon vehicle and astronaut were too pristine for a lunar environment. To remedy this, I introduced several roughness maps to suggest the wear and tear from moon surface exposure.
For Earth, I started with a sphere bearing earth maps, to which I added several spheres with cloud maps and transmission. Illuminating the scene required several lights for the lunar surface and a significant ‘sun’ source to properly represent the Earth’s lighting.
In essence, this project was an exercise in attention to detail and a practical exploration of Octane’s capabilities.
